Tamil Nadu Government launched free laptop scheme for students
In February, Tamil Nadu CM, K. Palaniswami re-launched the free laptop scheme for higher secondary students, studying in Government schools, which was originally launched by Former CM J Jayalalithaa during AIADMK Government in 2011. In 2011-16, the then Government had distributed 37.9 lakh laptops, worth of ₹5,552.39 crore. During this academic year, about 15.2 lakh students will be given free laptops, worth of ₹1,340.44 crore.
According to a report, In the last seven years, more than 3.2 lakh students who should have joined Government schools, have moved to private schools, reason poor conditions and facilities in Government schools of Tamil Nadu. Therefore, this step of Tamil Nadu Government aims to enhance the technical capabilities of students and improve the quality of education in Government schools.
