Savitribai Phule Pune University plans to set up Science Research Centre in Ladakh Region
A Science Research Centre in Ladakh region would soon be inaugurated by Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU). Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) and SPPU were in long discussion regarding establishment of this science research centre. “We are in talks with officials in Ladakh. Initially, it will be a dedicated centre for the science faculty, mainly for carrying out research activities. But presently, we are exploring all possible and available options,” said, Nitin Karmalkar, Vice-Chancellor, SPPU. The idea to establish an off campus research centre was formed when the government scrapped Article 370 on August 5th 2019. This will be the first ever centre opened in Ladakh. This step by SSPU will encourage many universities of India to establish their centre in Ladakh, this will boost up the education/literacy level in the Ladakh region.
