Mr. Geoff Barton from ASCL thinks "the mobile" as the best edtech product
Schools should let students use mobile phones in the classroom only at a certain point of time instead of putting an absolute ban on it. Geoff Barton, the general secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL), UK was asked to name an example of existing edtech which could make a positive difference in schools, surprisingly he named “the mobile”. “This idea that we shouldn’t take one of the most transformational bits of technology and deploy it in the classroom, just because we think someone’s going to criticize us for it – it’s really easy I think to manage that.” There is an older generation that is passing into young ones, there are times when it’s not appropriate to use mobile phones, but there are times when it can be used in a most productive way. Schools can set some ground rules to use it and teach the students how to use this technology in an educational manner.
