OTO Courses, an Egyptian startup, bags $400k to enhance distance learning

Ahmed Badr and Tarek Nour El-Din created OTO Courses, an Egypt-based EdTech firm, in 2015. OTO’s online learning platform allows students to set their own session times and contact directly with professors. The term “one-to-one” refers to a one-on-one relationship (tutoring). All of the courses on the site include one-on-one live tutoring with an instructor for a set number of hours. OTO Courses, which provides online English language courses to individuals and businesses, has raised $400k from corporate venture capital firm EdVentures in cash and in-kind services to improve distant learning methods in Egypt and the Arab globe. The company hopes to use the new funding to further improve its platform and offer services to a wider range of customers, particularly middle and secondary school kids, by providing educational programmes in a number of regions and disciplines. By providing distant educational services through its digital platform, the firm hopes to bridge the gap between traditional education and what the market requires.
