A new education strategy introduced in UK to increase education exports
A new international education strategy has been launched by The United Kingdom’s Department for Education and Department for International Trade, which aims to increase the value of education exports to USD 46 billion per year. The strategy would also focus on increasing the international students to 6 lakh by 2030. The value of education exports in UK in 2016 were USD 26 billion and number of international students were 442,000.
UK’s education department has committed to extend the post-study work period for international students, which is one of their strategies. This would also strengthen UK’s visa offer for students. According to a report of International Education Strategy “In order to drive progress against this target, we intend to build our global market share in international students across the education sectors”. In UK, current education exports are estimated to touch USD 25.6 billion by 2020. To achieve the target of USD 46 billion, it will require an annual average increase of 4%.
