After 14 years, NCERT reviews guidelines on curriculum
According to the NCERT (National Council of Education Research Training), the biggest exercise in school education reforms, National Curriculum Framework (NCF), will start soon in schools. The last NCF was published in 2005. After 14 years NCERT has begun preliminary work on its NCF review. The focus of last NCF (2005) was to shift the focus from teachers to students to ensure learning without burden. NCF provides the framework for creation of the school syllabi and the writing of textbooks, while giving guidelines on teaching practices in India. “The work we have done on rationalization of textbooks will form the basis of the review of the 2005 NCF,” said Senapaty, Director, NCERT. Keeping this NCF in mind, NCERT is planning a training programme to train 42 lakh government elementary school teachers.
