John Wiley to acquire Knewton assets
New York-based Knewton which was founded in 2008 will be acquired by John Wiley for an undisclosed amount. Knewton is a provider of digital courseware and adaptive-learning technologies. The company helps institutions and enterprises to provide personalized educational courses that are adopted by each student for key subject areas. Subjects include maths, economics, and chemistry. Knewton has also developed Alta for a personalized learning platform that allows institutions to create their courses. John Wiley & Sons, Inc. operates as a research and learning company worldwide. The company operates in three segments: Research, Publishing, and Solutions. Due to the acquisition, John Wiley will gain a known quantity that it can use to bolster its offerings in a growing EdTech segment. After the acquisition, JW is gaining a platform to pursue the growing affordable courseware in the market.
