Government approved ₹1,000 crore for continuation of Atal Innovation Mission (AIM)

On 7 March 2019, Central Government approved the continuation of Atal Innovative Mission till 2019-20. The expenditure on AIM is estimated to be around ₹1,000 crore and the Government aims to expand Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs) in 10,000 Government schools across India, which would encourage innovative thinking among students. Each Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) will receive funding of ₹12 lakh in the first year and up to ₹2 lakh per year for the following four years, for the maintenance of ATLs.

Atal Innovative Mission is the Government’s flagship initiative to promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among the students as these labs provides needed infrastructure, where students can give shape to their ideas. The labs include technologies like 3D printers, robotics, sensor technology kits, and Internet of things (IoT), etc to stimulate innovation among students of class 6th-12th. Such an initiative by the Government of India will help Government schools to get needed technical infrastructure and become more competitive in the digital era.
