CBSE to introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI), Early Childhood Care Education (ECCE) and Yoga as new subjects

The CBSE announced to introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI), ECCE and Yoga as new subjects in the school curriculum for the upcoming academic session, 2019-20. AI is to be introduced as an optional sixth subject for Class 9th, ECCE and Yoga are to be introduced as elective subjects at senior secondary level. AI in the past few years has gained momentum in education, it is an area of computer science that emphasizes the creation of intelligent machines that work and react like humans.

If a student fails in any one of the three elective subjects (science, mathematics and social science) in class IX, then it will be replaced by the skill subject (offered as a sixth subject) and the result of Class X will be calculated based on best five subjects. Similarly, at a senior secondary level, schools have been instructed by the board, to offer at least one or more skill-based subjects as elective subjects out of the 42 subjects. The main idea of introducing Artificial Intelligence (AI), ECCE and Yoga is to make students knowledgeable and skilful.
